Choir We invite everyone to be a part of the choir. The choir rehearses at 7:00 PM Wednesday evenings, with the exception of the first Wednesday of each month. Acolytes Open to young persons age 9-17 or grade 3-12 who do various duties during the service. Some of the duties performed are: · Torch bearers light the candles on the altar, carry the single candles into the church during the procession, accompany the gospel reader into the body of the church during the reading of the gospel and precede the choir as they exit the church at the end of the service. · Crucifers lead the procession into the church. This person assists the priest during the preparation of the table at the Eucharist. Greeters This group is open to anyone who wishes to serve. On Sunday mornings the greeters arrive at the church at least 15 minutes before services start in order to hand out the bulletin and encourage everyone to take a minute to make and wear a nametag. The greeter assists visitors to the church by pointing out the Service Booklets used during the service and in any other way they can to make the visitor feel welcome and at home with the worship service. Additonal duties are to count the number of persons in attendance for the Eucharist, passes the Alms Basin to the congregation during the Offertory hymn, assists the congregation when to proceed to the altar during Communion and assists anyone who needs help and to open the church doors at the start of the final hymn. Altar Guild The Altar Guild is responsible for everything behind the altar rail. The group sets the table for the Eucharist, fills the candles on the altar, counts out the wafers and fills the wine carafes before each service. They maintain the linens used on the altar. They do the altar arrangements for Funerals, Weddings, Baptisms etc. At the service of the Eucharist, the Altar Guild representative for the month carries the elements from the back of the church to give to the Acolyte at the altar. Training for this ministry is accomplished by pairing new members with existing members. Each team is responsible for the services during a 1 month period. 2008 Altar Guild Schedule Lay Readers This group is open to anyone wanting to read the first lesson and lead the reading of the Psalm. No license is required. Contact Nancy Hornstein to let her know which service and which Sunday would be best for you to volunteer. Eucharistic Ministers Eucharistic Ministers (EM) read the Lessons during the service and then are the Challis bearers during the Eucharist. To become an EM, you must complete a class from the diocese and become licensed by the Episcopal Church. The schedule for each month is published in the CHIMES newsletter, and the church office sends a reminder notice to the EM, which includes the bulletin insert for the service.
